Bulky item collection must be scheduled at least THREE DAYS before your regularly scheduled weekly trash pick-up day. Requests can be submitted online (preferred), via VB Works mobile app, by phone at (757) 385-4650, or by email at wastemgt@vbgov.com. Residents are encouraged to request service when multiple items have been gathered rather than requesting multiple pickups of single items. Items should be placed at curb by 7:00 AM on scheduled collection day.

Blue recycling carts are provided free to Virginia Beach residents receiving city-provided curbside services. Collection occurs every other week on your designated trash day. Place blue cart curbside between 5:00 PM the day before collection and 7:00 AM on collection day. Allow 3 feet of space between cart and obstacles. Cart lids must close securely. Do NOT bag recyclables - place items loose directly in your blue cart. Recyclables must be clean, dry, and empty. Townhome residents with 18-gallon bins can use paper bags for additional recyclables. Remove cart from curbside by end of collection day. Residents unable to place cart curbside can contact customer service for courtesy assistance at (757) 385-4650.

Virginia Beach observes the following holidays with collection changes for 2025: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 20) - landfill closed, collection unchanged; Memorial Day (May 26) - landfill closed, collection unchanged; Juneteenth (June 19) - landfill closed, Thursday routes moved to June 21; Independence Day (July 4) - landfill closed, Friday routes moved to July 5; Labor Day (Sept. 1) - landfill closed, collection unchanged; Veterans Day (Nov. 11) - landfill closed, collection unchanged; Thanksgiving (Nov. 27) - landfill closed, Thursday routes moved to Nov. 29; Day After Thanksgiving (Nov. 28) - landfill closed until Nov. 29, collection unchanged; Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) - landfill closed, collection unchanged; Christmas Day (Dec. 25) - landfill closed, Thursday routes moved to Dec. 27; New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2026) - landfill closed, Thursday routes moved to Jan. 3.
