Richmond recycling is managed by CVWMA (Central Virginia Waste Management Authority). Each residence is provided one 95-gallon recycling cart (green with blue lid) at no additional charge. Recycling collection occurs every other week on alternating Blue and Red weeks. To find your specific recycling week and collection day, visit cvwma.com/news/calendar/ and enter your address. Place your recycling cart at the curb by 7:00 AM on your collection day. Recyclables must be clean and dry - rinse containers and remove lids. Do NOT bag recyclables - place items loose in your cart. Flatten cardboard boxes. The monthly recycling fee is $2.99 and is included in your utility bill. CVWMA follows the "Golden Recycling Rules": Clean and dry items, no plastic bags in the bin, and "when in doubt, throw it out."

Holiday Schedule

Richmond observes the following city holidays with collection schedule changes: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day (Washington's Birthday), Spring Holiday (Good Friday), Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day, Veterans Day, Election Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Winter Holiday (Christmas Day). When a holiday falls on a weekday, garbage collection is delayed by one day for that week. For example, if a holiday falls on Tuesday, Tuesday collection moves to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday, and there is no collection on Friday. There is no trash collection on city holidays. Residents should check the city's official holiday schedule at rva.gov/public-works/refuse-holiday-schedule-update for specific dates and collection day adjustments.
