Place bulk and brush items curbside by 5 AM on Monday of your scheduled collection week. Maintain a distance of 3 feet between brush (yard waste) and bulk items (furniture, appliances). Tree branches should be cut into lengths of 6 feet with diameter no greater than 12 inches, and tied into bundles. Alternative: Bring up to one bulk trash item at no charge to Convenience Centers (fees apply for additional items).

Items must be CLEAN, EMPTY, and DRY. Nashville only accepts plastics #1 and #2 (bottles, jars, and jugs only). Glass must be taken to drop-off centers - DO NOT place in curbside recycling. Remove tape from cardboard boxes, break down and flatten before placing in bin. Place cart at curb by 6 AM on collection day with arrow on lid pointing toward street or alley. Collection occurs between 6 AM and 5 PM. Residents are allowed up to 2 recycling carts at no additional cost.

Holiday Schedule

If your collection day falls on a Metro holiday, all collection days after the holiday in that week will be delayed by one day. For example, if the holiday is on Monday, Monday collection moves to Tuesday, Tuesday moves to Wednesday, etc. If the holiday falls on a weekend and Metro Government observes it on a Monday or Friday, trash and recycling collection will NOT be delayed and will occur on the regular schedule. Metro Nashville Public Works provides comprehensive waste management services to over 150,000 households, servicing more than 1 million stops every month. COLLECTION SYSTEM: 1. BROWN CART (Trash) - Weekly collection, one cart provided per address 2. BLUE CART (Recycling) - Bi-weekly collection, up to 2 carts free 3. BRUSH & YARD WASTE - Quarterly collection on rotating schedule (4 times per year) IMPORTANT: Nashville uses address-based scheduling across Monday-Friday. Glass bottles and jars must be taken to one of the four Convenience Centers for drop-off. PILOT PROGRAMS: Metro Nashville is testing a residential food scraps collection pilot program for 750 homes, with curbside composting provided at no charge. The city has adopted a Zero Waste initiative calling for diverting 90% of waste from landfills. ELIGIBILITY: Curbside trash and recycling service is provided to single-family homes and duplexes in the Urban Services District.
