Toledo uses single-stream recycling - all accepted recyclables go in the blue cart together. Items must be clean and free of food remnants. Rinse all bottles, jars, and cans. Remove caps, lids, and spray pumps from plastic bottles. Flatten cardboard boxes. Place blue recycling cart at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day, night before recommended. Keep cart 3 feet from other objects. Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as trash. Do not bag recyclables - place loose in cart. Contamination with non-recyclable items can cause entire load to be rejected.

Holiday Schedule

Toledo trash and recycling collection observes 6 major holidays with service delays. When a holiday falls on your collection day, service is delayed by one day for that week only. Regular schedules resume the following week. Holidays observed: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on Monday, Monday's collection moves to Tuesday, Tuesday's to Wednesday, etc. Set out containers the night before your scheduled collection day.

Important Information

Toledo provides waste collection services to approximately 266,000 residents through a partnership with Republic Services. Trash is collected weekly in gray refuse containers, and recycling is collected bi-weekly in blue recycling containers. Both containers are provided by Republic Services and remain city property. To find your specific collection day, call Republic Services at 419-936-2511 or visit republicservices.com/schedule and enter your address. Free monthly bulk pickup is available by calling 48 hours in advance. The city also offers free Clean Toledo drop-off events throughout the year for bulk items, electronics, and yard waste. A free food waste composting program is available at three Metropark locations. For general questions, contact Engage Toledo at 419-936-2020. All trash must be bagged and placed in the gray container - do not overfill. Recycling items should be loose in the blue cart, not bagged. Set containers at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day. Keep containers 3 feet from vehicles, mailboxes, and other objects.
