Baltimore City uses single-stream recycling - all recyclables go together in any container except plastic bags. There is no limit on the amount of recycling you can put out. Place recycling curbside on your scheduled collection day (bi-weekly). Residents in Northeast and Northwest neighborhoods are on Week A, while Southeast and Southwest neighborhoods are on Week B. To find your A/B week cycle, visit the DPW recycling map online at publicworks.baltimorecity.gov or call 311. Rinse containers to remove food residue. Flatten cardboard boxes. Do not bag recyclables - use bins, boxes, or other rigid containers. If your collection day falls on a city holiday, hold items until the makeup day (usually the following Saturday).

Holiday Schedule

Baltimore City observes the following holidays with modified collection schedules: New Year's Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday in January), Presidents' Day (third Monday in February), Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day (first Monday in September), Indigenous Peoples' Day (second Monday in October), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday in November), and Christmas (December 25). When a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled collection day, there will be no trash or recycling collection that day. DPW offices and sanitation yards are also closed on holidays. Makeup collections typically occur on the following Saturday. Monday is not a regularly scheduled collection day in Baltimore City (collections run Tuesday-Friday), so holidays falling on Mondays do not impact weekly trash and recycling collections. Holiday closures may not impact all services - check with DPW for specific holiday schedules. Summer collection hours begin around July 8 and run through September 30, with pickups starting at 5:00 AM.

Important Information

Baltimore City Department of Public Works provides weekly trash collection and bi-weekly recycling collection to residential properties. Monday is NOT a regularly scheduled collection day - all collections occur Tuesday through Friday. To find your specific trash collection day and recycling week (A or B), use the CityView online map tool at cityview.baltimorecity.gov, select "City Services" as the thematic overlay, then "Trash and Recycling Day" as the layer. You can also call 311 for assistance. Place trash and recycling curbside by 6:00 AM on your collection day. Residents must show proof of Baltimore City residency (driver's license, utility bill, or tax bill) to use Citizens Convenience Drop-Off Centers. Maximum 2 loads per day and 5 loads per week at drop-off centers. Vehicles must be passenger cars or unmodified vans/pickup trucks. Commercial vehicles are not permitted at residential drop-off centers. For questions or to report missed collections, call 311 (within Baltimore City) or (443) 263-2220 (outside the city), available 7 days a week, 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Three recycling substations (York Road, Lewin, Calverton Road) accept recyclable items only, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 10:30 PM. Christmas tree collection and mulching service runs from collection day through early February.
