Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government provides comprehensive waste management services to residents. The Division of Waste Management operates weekly collection of trash, recycling, and yard waste all on the same day, making it simple for residents to remember their collection schedule. COLLECTION SYSTEM: 1. GREEN CART - Trash (weekly collection) 2. BLUE CART - Recycling (weekly single-stream collection) 3. GRAY CART - Yard Waste (weekly year-round collection) All three carts are collected on the same day each week. Collection days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday (no Wednesday collection). FINDING YOUR COLLECTION DAY: Lexington uses address-based scheduling. To find your specific collection day: - Use the LexFind feature at lexingtonky.gov/living/waste-collection - Text your collection day to 888777 to sign up for alerts - Call LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255 - Use the LexCall mobile app to submit service requests COLLECTION GUIDELINES: - Place all three carts at curb no earlier than 4:00 PM the day before collection - Carts must be out no later than 5:00 AM on collection day - Remove carts from curb by 7:00 PM on collection day - Maintain 3 feet of space around each cart - Keep carts away from vehicles, trees, fire hydrants, cable wires, and other objects - Position carts so handles face away from street CART SPECIFICATIONS: Each household receives three roll-out carts from the city at no additional charge beyond the monthly landfill fee. Businesses receive 2 of each cart type. Additional carts can be requested for a one-time container fee of $60 + $3.60 sales tax. Additional trash carts also incur a $4.50 monthly landfill fee. BULKY ITEM PICKUP: Free bulky item pickup service is available for households with city waste collection. Most bulky items including mattresses, box springs, appliances, and tires (up to 4 per week) can be collected from the curb on your regular collection day. Schedule pickup by calling LexCall at 311, submitting a service request online, or using the LexCall mobile app. Pickups are normally made within 5 business days of your request. SPECIAL PROGRAMS: - Household Hazardous Waste Events: Held twice yearly (typically May and October) at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. Free for Fayette County residents. Online survey completion required. - Paper Shred Events: Free paper shredding for residents (up to 5 boxes/bags) held twice yearly at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. - Electronics Recycling: Year-round free drop-off at 1306 Versailles Road. Not available for businesses. - Medication Disposal: Drop boxes at Lexington Police main office and Fayette County Sheriff's office. - Battery Recycling: Electronics Recycling Center (except lead-acid) and Interstate Battery (1251A Georgetown Rd for lead-acid). - Fluorescent Bulbs: Electronics Recycling Center, Home Depot, and Lowe's locations.
