Holiday Schedule

Boise delays trash and recycling collection by one day following major holidays when they fall on a weekday. Affected holidays include: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If the holiday falls on a weekend, the regular collection schedule is maintained with no changes. Mobile HHW collection sites and the permanent HHW facility at Ada County Landfill are closed on these holidays. The landfill also closes at 4:00 PM on Christmas Eve.

Important Information

The City of Boise's "Curb It" program serves over 97% of eligible households in partnership with Republic Services. The city is committed to comprehensive waste diversion and sustainability, with residents participating in one of the nation's most successful curbside composting programs - diverting over 30,000 tons of organic waste from landfills annually. The program has recently expanded to accept all food waste including meat, dairy, and grains. Residents can access their specific collection schedule using Republic Services' online address lookup tool at republicservices.com/schedule. Standard service includes weekly trash and compost collection, bi-weekly recycling, 6 free large item pickups annually, and 5 overflow stickers per year. Carts must be placed at curb or alley by 6:00 AM on collection day and removed within 24 hours. Keep carts at least 3 feet apart from obstacles. Commercial collection occurs 24/7 Monday-Saturday. For special programs, Boise offers the Hefty ReNew orange bag program for hard-to-recycle plastics (#4-#7), which are converted into energy and recycled composite products through pyrolysis. Glass must be recycled separately through the optional purple bag curbside program ($8.19/month) or at free drop-off collection sites throughout the city (open 7 days/week). Free finished compost (STA certified) is available to residents at the Joplin Road Site, 9 AM - 7 PM daily, with a limit of 2 cubic yards per household per year (self-serve, bring your own containers and shovels). Multi-family residents can participate in the food scrap drop-off pilot program at Comba Park and Fort Boise Park Complex. The city also offers a Community Compost Giveback program for neighborhood groups. Contact Republic Services at 208-345-1266 for service issues or Boise City Utility Billing at 208-608-7460 for billing questions.
