Holiday Schedule

Long Beach Recycles does NOT collect refuse and recycling on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1). When these holidays fall on a weekday, collection for the holiday and the remainder of that week will be delayed one day, ending on Saturday. When Christmas and New Year's Day fall on a Saturday, collection will occur the Friday before the holiday. All other holidays have normal collection schedules. Place all carts out by 6:00 AM on your collection day. Collection can occur anytime between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Carts should be returned to property within 12 hours after emptying.

Important Information

Long Beach serves approximately 130,000+ residential customers with city-provided waste collection. The city operates under California SB 1383 organic waste recycling mandates, requiring separation of organic waste from landfill-bound trash. Collection schedules are address-specific - use the MapIt Application at https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/846a17aadb6e40d79f4da0470d106bcf to find your exact collection day. All three bins (gray trash, blue recycling, green organics) are collected on the same day each week. Set bins curbside or in alley by 6:00 AM on collection day. Leave 2 feet of space between carts. Place lid arrow toward street. Do not overfill - maximum 200 pounds for 95-gallon cart, 150 pounds for 65-gallon cart. Cart exchanges permitted once every six months (currently limited availability). As of February 2024, trash is transported to transfer stations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties after closure of the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility (SERRF). Green organics bin rollout occurring throughout 2025 in phases.
