Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Remove caps and lids from bottles and jars. Rinse containers to remove food residue. Keep the recycling cart free of contamination - food waste, liquids, and non-recyclable items reduce recycling quality and can cause loads to be rejected. For specific recycling questions, visit Waste Management website or call 949-642-1191.

Holiday Schedule

When a holiday falls on a weekday, residential trash, recycling, and organics collection will be delayed ONE DAY for the remainder of that week. Thursday collections move to Friday, and Friday collections move to Saturday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there will be NO DELAYS to the regular collection schedule. Major holidays affecting collection: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The Irvine Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 6411 Oak Canyon is closed on major holidays and during rainy weather. Collection times: Place carts curbside by 6:00 AM on your collection day. Carts should be placed at least 3 feet apart and 3 feet from obstacles (parked cars, mailboxes, trees). For holiday schedule questions, contact Waste Management at 949-642-1191.

Important Information

The City of Irvine contracts with Waste Management of Orange County to provide comprehensive waste collection services to residential customers throughout Irvine's 22+ villages. All solid waste, recyclables, and organics carts are collected weekly on the same day. Collection days vary by address and neighborhood - use the online address lookup tool at wm.com/us/en/location/ca/irvine/trash-pickup-irvine-ca to find your specific collection day. Curbside collection begins at 6:00 AM, so place carts at the curb by 6:00 AM on your collection day and remove them by the end of the day. Carts should be placed with wheels against the curb and handles facing your home, at least 3 feet apart from each other and obstacles. Irvine follows California SB 1383 organic waste recycling mandates as of April 1, 2023. All residents must separate food scraps from trash and place them in the green organics cart along with yard waste. Violations of waste sorting requirements may result in fines. Do not overfill carts - the lid must close completely. Maximum cart weights should not exceed reasonable limits for automated collection. Waste Management operates state-of-the-art processing facilities that handle recyclables and organics from Irvine. For service requests, missed pickups, cart exchanges, or billing questions, contact Waste Management Customer Service at 949-642-1191.
