Chula Vista residents can schedule FREE bulky item pickup by calling Republic Services at (619) 421-9400 at least 24 hours before their regular service day. Items must be placed at the curb the night before collection. Additional items beyond the free limit may be picked up for a small fee. Collection cart service customers in good standing can also get two landfill passes and two yard waste passes per year to the Otay Landfill by calling 619-482-4024.

All recyclable items must be empty, clean, and dry. Place items LOOSE in the blue bin - do NOT bag recyclables. Remove caps and lids. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Contamination (food, liquids, non-recyclables) can cause loads to be rejected. Recyclables must always be placed loose in your recycling container, not in bags. Republic Services offers three sizes of blue recycling carts, and single-family residents receive recycling service at no additional charge beyond trash service fees.

Holiday Schedule

Chula Vista trash, recycling, and organics collection services are delayed by one day when a holiday falls on your scheduled collection day or earlier in the week. The holidays that prompt collection delays in Chula Vista are: New Year's Day (January 1), Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day (December 25). If your scheduled service day falls on or after a holiday, your service day will be delayed by one day. For all other holidays, service will be on regular schedule. Collection times: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Place containers at curb by 7:00 AM on collection day and remove by 8:00 PM.

The city operates under California SB 1383 organic waste recycling mandates, requiring all residents to separate food scraps and yard waste into green carts. Set all bins (black trash, blue recycling, green organics) at the curb by 7:00 AM on your collection day with lids closed and handles facing the street. Maximum cart weights: 35-gal (100 lbs), 64-gal (200 lbs), 96-gal (300 lbs). Trash placed outside of your cart will be subject to extra collection charges. Republic Services operates the Otay Landfill and California's first fully solar-powered composting facility. The city has a comprehensive waste reduction goal and participates in regional recycling programs through the San Diego County Integrated Waste Management Authority.
