Mesa uses single-stream recycling - all recyclables go together in the blue barrel. Items must be empty, clean, and dry. Do NOT bag recyclables - place items loose in the barrel. Remove foam and plastic packing materials from boxes. Flatten cardboard boxes. Labels and lids can stay on containers. Use the Recycle Right Wizard at mesaaz.gov to check specific items. Place barrel at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day. Blue barrels are provided by the city and included in monthly service. Contact waste.info@mesaaz.gov with recycling questions.

Holiday Schedule

Mesa provides exceptional holiday service - barrels are collected on ALL holidays with NO delays. This includes New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection continues on the regular schedule regardless of holidays. This is a unique benefit of Mesa's municipal solid waste service. The Household Hazardous Materials Facility at 2412 N. Center St. is CLOSED on city holidays.

Important Information

City of Mesa Solid Waste Division serves over 140,000 households with comprehensive municipal waste collection services. Mesa's "Green & Clean" program emphasizes environmental sustainability and recycling education. Collection starts at 6:00 AM - place barrels at curb the night before pickup day. Barrels must be accessible and at least 3 feet from obstacles (cars, mailboxes, trees). Mesa uses geographic zones with address-based routing - use the online lookup tool at gis.mesaaz.gov/Html5Viewer to find your specific collection day. Standard service includes one black trash barrel and one blue recycling barrel with weekly collection. Green yard waste barrels are available for additional monthly fee. Missed barrel collections can be reported at 480-644-2221 or online. Mesa residents only (those paying Green & Clean fee) can use the Household Hazardous Materials facility - proof of Mesa residency required (driver's license or utility bill). Stay in vehicle during HHM facility drop-off (drive-through service). Report illegal dumping to Mesa Police non-emergency line. For business trash service, contact 480-644-2221. Roll-off container rentals available for construction projects.
