Glendale uses single-stream recycling - all accepted recyclables go together in the blue 95-gallon container. Items MUST be clean, dry, and empty. Rinse containers to remove food residue. No need to remove labels or caps. Do NOT use plastic bags in recycling - they damage processing equipment. Do NOT nest items inside each other. Place recycling container at curb after 5:00 PM the evening before or by 6:00 AM on collection day. Container must face forward with wheels in curb area. Keep at least 3 feet apart from trash container and 10 feet from parked vehicles. Contamination enforcement: Red tag on first contamination, 3-month suspension after second contamination. City goal is less than 20% contamination by 2025. Glass recycling was added in March 2023 through new partnership with Waste Management. Only plastics marked #1 or #2 are accepted - plastics #3-#7 no longer accepted. Test your recycling knowledge with the city's online "Recycling and Disposal Done Right" game.

Holiday Schedule

Glendale only delays trash and recycling collection for THREE holidays: Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025), Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25, 2025), and New Year's Day (Wednesday, January 1, 2026). When a holiday falls on a collection day, the schedule adjusts as follows: Thursday collection moves to Friday, and Friday collection moves to Saturday. For all other holidays (including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, etc.), collection remains on the regular schedule with NO delays. The Glendale Municipal Landfill is closed on Sundays and city holidays.

Important Information

City of Glendale Field Operations Division serves all single-family residences with comprehensive municipal waste collection services. Each residence receives one 95-gallon garbage container and one 95-gallon recycling container. Collection occurs between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM on your scheduled day. Containers should be placed at curb after 5:00 PM the evening before or by 6:00 AM on collection day. Containers must face forward with wheels in curb area, at least 3 feet apart from each other and 10 feet from parked vehicles. Garbage must be bagged and tied - do not overfill containers, lids must close completely. Recycling should be loose (not bagged), clean, and dry. Do not place hazardous items, appliances, furniture, or tires in containers. Glendale uses a 4-section system for bulk trash collection - each section has monthly pickup (Section 1: First week, Section 2: Second week, Section 3: Third week, Section 4: Fourth week). Use the online lookup tool at gismaps.glendaleaz.com to find your specific collection day and bulk trash section. Household Hazardous Waste collection is by appointment only during Spring (March) and Fall (October). Program is for residential single-family homes only (not apartments, condos, or multi-family). Items must be in original, clearly marked containers. Limit 20 gallons of liquids, no containers larger than 5 gallons. Place items by front of garage by 6:00 AM on scheduled collection day. Glendale Municipal Landfill offers Glendale residents one free disposal visit per month (up to 2,000 lbs) - proof of residency required (utility bill and photo ID). Landfill accepts credit and debit cards only. Contact Field Operations Director Michelle Woytenko or Deputy Director Michael Carr for program information.
